In Vantaa, a devastating fire resulted in the deaths of five individuals, all belonging to the same Somali family. The deceased include a father, mother, and three children. However, amidst this tragedy, reports indicate that a newborn baby, approximately one week old, survived the incident. The baby is currently receiving medical care in the hospital.

According to Shire Mohamuud, the chair of the local immigrant association Tusmo ry, the family has been identified and confirmed to be of Somali origin, living in the burned apartment with multiple young children. Reports from various sources, including interviews conducted by Helsingin Sanomat, suggest that the family was well-known in the community, highlighting the impact of their loss on local residents.

Authorities confirmed that among the victims, two were underage children—one school-aged and another preschool-aged. This incident has raised concerns within the community regarding safety measures in residential areas as local leaders and organizations come together to support the surviving family member and address the needs of the grieving community.
