Yang Hyo-jin, a star player of the women's professional volleyball team Hyundai Construction, will retire at the end of this season after a remarkable 19-year career.
Yang Hyo-jin has announced her retirement from women's professional volleyball at the end of the current season, marking the conclusion of a storied 19-year career exclusively with Hyundai Construction. The team has decided to retire her jersey number 14 as a testament to her legendary status within the sport. Established as a franchise star, Yang's impact on the volleyball league is significant, with numerous records to her name, including being the all-time leading scorer with 8,354 points, effectiveness in attacks, and dominating in blocks.
Debuting in the 2007-2008 season, Yang quickly rose to fame, showcasing her exceptional skills as a middle blocker and contributing to the national teamβs remarkable achievements, such as their 2020 Tokyo Olympics semifinal run alongside fellow player Kim Yeon-koung. Throughout her career, she has led her team to numerous victories, including multiple MVP awards and an impressive 17 appearances in All-Star matches. Her accolades extend beyond club competitions, having won medals at various Asian Games inclusive of gold in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
