The congregation organizes an event due to the Vantaa fire
A church in Vantaa, Finland, is holding a memorial event to support the community following a tragic fire that claimed five lives.
In Vantaa, Finland, the Hämeenkylä church has announced it will host a solemn gathering on Tuesday at 6 PM, in response to a devastating fire that occurred in Pähkinärinne, where five individuals lost their lives. The church aims to provide a space for reflection and discussion, with clergy members present to support those affected by the tragedy.
Seppo Kärkiniemi, the acting parish pastor, stated that the church will open its doors earlier in the afternoon to allow community members to come in to light candles and seek solace in a quiet environment. The church will enter a 'silence mode' as part of the memorial service, emphasizing the need for mourning and community solidarity in light of the grief caused by the incident. This is particularly significant as the police suspect the fire may have been intentionally set, intensifying the emotional turmoil surrounding the event.
To further assist those impacted, the church's pastors will be available for phone consultations today and tomorrow from 9 AM to 6 PM, with crisis services continuing through Friday. Kärkiniemi expressed that the tragedy, combined with possible criminal elements, raises profound questions, fear, and anger within the community. While the church cannot resolve these issues, it seeks to support the community in navigating their grief and finding hope amidst the sorrow.
