Experts Exposed: Here's How Scammers Operate on Roads by Deliberately Causing Accidents
Experts highlight the rise of scammers who deliberately cause road accidents to manipulate insurance payouts.
Artūras Juodeikis, director of the claims department at "Lietuvos draudimas," reveals that scammers who cause intentional accidents often involve innocent drivers in their schemes. By staging traffic incidents, they aim to either hide old damage to their vehicles or repair those that are mechanically faulty. Such individuals typically have a deep understanding of traffic rules and know how to exploit complicated intersections, making them adept at creating plausible accident scenarios.
According to Juodeikis, these fraudsters frequently operate in larger cities where high traffic volumes and complex driving situations are more common. They strategically position themselves to take advantage of vulnerable moments in traffic flow. Often, these exploitative drivers are well-prepared, having orchestrated numerous setups where they previously feigned victimhood, thereby cashing in on insurance claims multiple times, sometimes ranging from a dozen to several dozen incidents.
The implications of this fraudulent activity extend beyond individual losses; they affect the insurance industry and contribute to higher premiums for legitimate drivers. Law enforcement and insurance companies are becoming increasingly aware of these tactics, emphasizing the need for vigilance and preventive measures to protect against such deceptive practices.
