The Italian government has announced a decree aimed at alleviating the financial burden on residents and businesses in regions affected by severe weather since January 18. The decree, signed by Minister of Civil Protection Nello Musumeci, includes a suspension of tax and contribution obligations, as well as utility payments for electricity, water, gas, and waste, which will be paused until April 30. This is in response to devastating events including landslides, particularly the landslide in Niscemi impacting the provinces of Calabria, Sardinia, and Sicily.

In total, the initiative boasts a funding pool of €499 million, with an additional €400 million earmarked for 2026 and 2027 from the National Emergency Fund, which has already allocated €100 million during the state of emergency declaration. The comprehensive measures made available aim to provide essential financial relief and support for affected workers, both employees and self-employed individuals, ensuring that they can recover from the economic fallout triggered by the adverse weather conditions.
