Israeli army issues evacuation orders for dozens of places in Lebanon; announces new attack on Tehran district
The Israeli army has issued urgent evacuation orders to residents in several areas of Lebanon due to ongoing conflict with Hezbollah and recent military actions.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army issued new evacuation orders for residents in dozens of locations across Lebanon, particularly alerting citizens in two southern Beirut neighborhoods about the danger of specific buildings. Army spokesperson Avichai Adraee emphasized the urgency of the situation, advising people to evacuate their homes immediately for their safety, citing a list of 50 locations that are under threat due to military operations.
The backdrop to this urgent evacuation order is the ongoing conflict between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah, which has been engaging in regular attacks against Israeli targets. Many of the areas mentioned in the evacuation orders are in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli military conducts strikes aimed at dismantling Hezbollah's infrastructure. The situation escalated further on Monday when the Lebanese government took drastic measures to curb Hezbollah's military and security activities, mandating that the group hand over its weapons to the state, amidst rising tensions following recent escalatory actions by Hezbollah.
Hezbollah, which holds representation in both the Lebanese government and parliament, stated that it has been retaliating against Israel for the killing of Iranβs Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The group confirmed that earlier on Monday, it had launched missiles and drones into Israel as part of this retaliation. The Lebanese government's decision to curb Hezbollah's activities comes as a significant political move, signaling a shift in the balance of power within Lebanon against a backdrop of increasing regional instability.
