Drift Community 'Japan Majikiteru Union' Members Arrested for Joint Dangerous Acts

Five members of the drifting group 'Japan Majikiteru Union' were arrested in Tokyo for conducting dangerous drifting maneuvers on public roads.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested five individuals connected to the drifting group known as 'Japan Majikiteru Union' on charges of violating road traffic laws due to collective dangerous conduct. The arrests occurred after the group allegedly executed drifting maneuvers with five cars on public roads in Ota City, causing potential hazards to other drivers. One member admitted to the allegations, while others claimed they were only drifting individually despite their group identification.

The arrests were a result of an incident on December 27, 2022, when the suspects conspired to drift their cars in the early hours in Ota. They reportedly drove in a line and repeatedly drifted over approximately 700 meters of road. The individuals included a 27-year-old Brazilian national and other men aged between 26 and 32. The group's involvement in drifting extends to organized circuit events, and they expressed a preference for street drifting, stating that circuits did not provide the same fulfillment.

Additionally, one member who was working part-time has been implicated further for allegedly hitting two onlookers while fleeing the scene, leading to additional charges of causing bodily harm through negligent driving and a hit-and-run. This incident highlights a growing trend of illegal street racing and drifting in urban settings and raises questions concerning public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in managing such activities.
