Russia practiced launching surface-to-air missiles in the Baltic Sea
The Russian Baltic Fleet conducted exercises in the Baltic Sea involving the launch of two missiles from the Pantsir-M air defense system.
The Russian Baltic Fleet recently completed military exercises in the Baltic Sea, during which the corvette Burja successfully launched two surface-to-air missiles from the Pantsir-M air defense system against a target. According to the fleet's press service, these tests are part of the corvette's state trials, which aim to enhance the operational capabilities of the Russian Navy in that region.
The exercises included targeting a dummy missile that was fired from another Baltic Fleet corvette, the Boiki. Surveillance data confirmed that both missiles accurately hit the intended target, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Pantsir-M system. This development comes as part of ongoing military preparations and training operations by Russia, particularly in strategic waters such as the Baltic Sea, which are vital for regional security and military posturing.
The Russian Navy has indicated its intentions to integrate the Burja into its Baltic Fleet after the conclusion of these state trials set to be finalized by April 2024. This initiative reflects Russia's focus on strengthening its naval presence and capabilities in the Baltic Sea amid growing security concerns in the region, particularly in relation to NATO activities.
