Prioritizing the Minor

The Buenos Aires government is conducting regular checks at mass sporting and cultural events to identify food support debtors.

The Buenos Aires government has implemented periodic checks at large sporting and cultural events to enforce child support payment compliance. Legislative changes approved by the local legislature a year ago enable these procedures, directing efforts towards those who have failed to pay three consecutive child support payments or five alternate ones. Offenders are listed in the Public Register of Child Support Debtors (RPAM), which serves to inform them of their legal obligations and facilitate the processing of any pending actions.

In the past year, authorities have carried out 119 operations, resulting in 102 infractors being denied entry to events, highlighting a trend of individuals choosing recreational activities while neglecting their financial responsibilities towards child support. These enforcement operations have included a range of events, from football matches, international rugby encounters, to approximately 20 musical concerts, showcasing an active approach to addressing child support delinquency in the community.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment by the Buenos Aires government to prioritize the welfare of children in need of financial support, emphasizing accountability in fulfilling these obligations. By ensuring that non-compliant debtors are held accountable, the policy aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by custodial parents and promote a culture of responsibility regarding child support payments among those involved in the judicial process.
