Some flights depart Middle East as US urges its citizens to leave region immediately amid travel chaos
Stranded travelers in the Middle East began using limited evacuation flights as the US urged its citizens to leave the region due to escalating conflict and widespread flight cancellations.
As the conflict in the Middle East worsens, travelers stranded in the region are commencing evacuation flights from the United Arab Emirates. Airlines such as Etihad Airways, Emirates, and FlyDubai have announced they will be operating limited flights to facilitate the exit of foreign nationals. The situation has been chaotic, significantly impacted by missile and drone attacks, leading to a widespread cancellation of flights.
According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, since the escalation of conflict began on Saturday, over 11,000 flights have been cancelled in and around the region, affecting more than 1 million passengers. The travel disruptions are expected to persist as international efforts to extract citizens from the area continue. US President Donald Trump has indicated that while the current conflict is estimated to last four to five weeks, it could extend beyond that timeframe, raising concerns for those caught in the turmoil.
In response to the escalating situation, the US State Department has advised American citizens to leave more than a dozen countries in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE. This urgent directive reflects the growing concerns for the safety of expatriates and underscores the geopolitical tensions in the region. Governments worldwide are responding with similar measures, emphasizing the need for safe travel and the potential hazards travelers may face during this crisis.
