Small Business Corporation Expands Direct Loans for Small Businesses at Homeplus

The Small Business Corporation of Korea has announced an expansion of direct loan support for small business owners at Homeplus to ease their financial difficulties.

On November 3, the Small Business Corporation (SBC) of Korea announced that it would expand its direct loan support program for small businesses selling at Homeplus supermarkets. This initiative comes as a response to the financial difficulties faced by these small vendors and aims to streamline the support process. Previously, the funding was provided through a 'proxy loan' scheme that involved rigorous evaluations by guarantee institutions and financial institutions. With the new direct loan method, applications will now only require documentation from the SBC, reducing bureaucracy and expediting funding access for businesses in need.

Furthermore, the eligibility criteria for these loans have been broadened. Initially, the direct loans were restricted to micro-sized businesses with an annual revenue below 100 million Korean Won or those with less than seven years in operation. Under the new guidelines, all small business owners within the Homeplus network will now qualify for assistance, effectively lowering the barriers to support. The SBC has also introduced simplified review processes to facilitate faster approval and disbursement of funds.

The timing of this announcement coincides with the ongoing restructuring proceedings for Homeplus itself, which has been under court-ordered rehabilitation since March of last year. The Seoul Rehabilitation Court is set to make a decision regarding the approval of the Homeplus rehabilitation plan and could extend deadlines as necessary. This financial support initiative not only aims to stabilize the small business sector linked to Homeplus but also reflects the government's commitment to maintaining economic stability during challenging times.
