300-level UI medical student dies after ingesting insecticide

A 300-level medical student at the University of Ibadan tragically passed away after consuming an insecticide, Sniper, with investigations ongoing.

On Sunday evening, a 300-level medical student at the University of Ibadan died after ingesting an insecticide known as Sniper. The student was discovered by a fellow peer foaming at the mouth and disoriented on the ground floor of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall. Upon being found, he confessed to ingesting the poison before losing consciousness, prompting his roommates to promptly seek help from hall authorities.

He was transported to Jaja Clinic for immediate medical attention, where he received stabilization treatment involving oxygen support and intravenous fluids. Following initial treatment, he was transferred to the University College Hospital's emergency unit for advanced care and was placed on life support. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his condition later that evening, as confirmed by Funmi Adetuyibi, the UCH Public Relations Officer.

The tragic occurrence has raised concerns within the university community regarding student mental health and the dangers of substance abuse, further emphasizing the need for preventive measures and greater awareness. University officials are expected to conduct a thorough investigation while offering support to affected students and staff during this devastating time.
