A man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of Italian woman Antonella De Rosa, whose body he buried in their backyard in Araquari, Brazil.
Antonella De Rosa, a 43-year-old Italian woman, was murdered in her home in Araquari, Northern Santa Catarina, Brazil. The conviction, which carries a sentence of 13 years in a closed regime, was announced by the state's Public Ministry (MPSC). The accused, whose name has not been disclosed, committed the crime using a metal rod and a hammer between the nights of February 26 and 27, 2024, in what has been described as one of the most severe cases recently recorded in the jurisdiction.
Following the murder, the perpetrator concealed De Rosa's body for several days until it was discovered by the Civil Police on March 6, 2024. The crime reflects ongoing issues related to domestic violence and the dangers faced by women, particularly immigrants in precarious situations. De Rosa had been residing in Brazil for approximately 15 years before her tragic death.
The prosecutor, Caio Rothsahl Botelho, remarked on the brutal nature of the assault, emphasizing the social context of violence that often affects women. This case not only highlights the severe penalties for such crimes but also brings attention to the broader societal issues surrounding domestic abuse and the urgent need for protective measures for vulnerable populations.
