A public servant in Americano do Brasil was found dead after being taken by a suspect on a motorcycle, with evidence suggesting foul play.
The Civil Police are investigating the death of Leydes Hilário Maia, a public servant for the Mayor's Office of Americano do Brasil in Central Goiás, who was found dead on Monday after being seen on a motorcycle with a suspect identified as the main perpetrator. Security camera footage captured the moment the suspect, riding a red motorcycle, picked Leydes up as a passenger. The footage shows Leydes falling off the motorcycle, followed by the rider threatening and assaulting him before heading toward an under-construction house. Leydes's body was discovered near that location, hidden in a cistern hole.
Family members reported that Leydes's home had been ransacked, and they indicated that he had recently received a salary of just over R$ 1,900, which was missing. Leydes was known to be the eldest of five siblings and had dedicated over 25 years of service to the local government. His cousin, Patrícia Silva, expressed her grief and outrage, describing the inhumane treatment Leydes suffered, adding emotional weight to the community’s reaction to this tragic event.
The case raises serious concerns regarding public safety and the protection of local workers, highlighting the potential vulnerability of public servants within Brazilian society. The investigation into Leydes's death not only seeks to bring justice for the family but also aims to address the broader implications of violence against public officials in Brazil, an issue that continues to affect citizens across the country.
