A small number of tennis players are stranded in Dubai amid ongoing attacks in the Middle East, as confirmed by the ATP.
Two days after the outbreak of war in the Middle East, a 'small number' of tennis players remain stranded in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which has been under attack since Saturday (28th) with missiles and drones from Iran, the ATP reported. The organization emphasized that the health, safety, and well-being of its players, their teams, and tournament staff are its top priority, following the conclusion of the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai on Saturday (2nd).
The ATP communicated that there are players and team members still in Dubai, currently accommodated in the tournament's official hotels, and they are in direct communication with the affected individuals. The situation has become complex due to the closure of Dubai's airspace, which affects not only the players but also coaches, referees, physiotherapists, and other team members, including the players' family members, totaling around 30 people.
As the situation develops, the ATP's ongoing communication and support will be crucial for those stranded players and teams as they navigate the risks posed by the conflict in the region. The organizationβs swift response highlights the challenges faced in sports during geopolitical tensions, emphasizing the importance of player safety in international sporting events.
