Rinkēvičs expects complete implementation of eastern border surveillance technological solutions this year
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs emphasizes the need for the complete implementation of border surveillance technology along the eastern border with Russia by the end of the year.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs stressed the importance of completing the technological solutions for border surveillance along the country's eastern border by the end of the year. During a visit to the border area in the Alūksne and Balvi districts, he highlighted the need for effective monitoring systems amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The visit underscored the government's commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place.
Accompanying President Rinkēvičs were Commander of the National Armed Forces Kaspars Pudāns and the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts. Together, they reviewed the work of the Pededze Border Guard Unit and inspected the border fence infrastructure, which is set to be completed by the end of 2025. The officials discussed the challenges of securing the Latvian-Russian border, especially in areas with challenging terrain such as marshlands.
As Latvia continues to emphasize its commitment to border security in the face of regional threats, the deployment of advanced surveillance technology becomes increasingly critical. Rinkēvičs’s visit not only aimed to assess progress but also to reassure the public and stakeholders about the government’s proactive measures in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and security against potential incursions.
