Neither endless like Iraq, nor for regime change... The US has made it clear what comes next in the Iran war
The US and Israel continue a military operation against Iran, claiming it's aimed at neutralizing Iran's military capabilities rather than regime change.
The ongoing conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran has entered its third day, with significant implications for Iran’s leadership and military standing. The Iranian Supreme Leader and other top officials have been killed, leading to the appointment of an interim leader. Iran, feeling enraged by the loss of its leadership, has been carrying out retaliatory strikes, while the US Department of Defense holds crucial meetings to discuss the future of the engagement.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated in a press conference that the United States has not initiated a war with Iran but aims to bring the conflict to a conclusion under President Donald Trump’s leadership. He emphasized that the joint military operation with Israel was not meant for regime change but has, nonetheless, altered the power dynamics within Iran. The objective of the operation is to incapacitate Iran's missile capabilities and naval strength to prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Hegseth noted that the US will pursue the end of this conflict on its terms, suggesting a firm approach toward Iran's military operations. The current situation reflects a complex interplay of military strategy, political maneuvering, and implications for both regional stability and global security within the Middle East.
