Iraq caught in the crossfire between Iran and the "opposing side," says Iraqi minister

Iraq is facing increased security challenges as it is caught in the middle of the escalating conflict between Iran and opposing forces, according to Iraqi Foreign Minister F. Husseins.

In a conversation with UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Hamish Falconer, Iraqi Foreign Minister F. Husseins expressed serious concerns over Iraq's precarious situation amid rising tensions in the region. He stated that Iraq is now directly affected by the ongoing war, highlighting the bombardment by Iran on the Kurdistan region, particularly the area around Erbil. This signifies a clear impact of external conflicts on Iraq's stability and security.

Husseins pointed out that while Iran is attacking northern Iraq, opposing forces are targeting sites in southern and western Iraq. Although he didn't explicitly name countries, he implied that Israel and the United States are behind some of these attacks on pro-Iranian groups. This escalating violence poses significant security challenges for Iraq, which has historically been a battleground for regional conflicts.

The current situation places Iraq in a delicate position where it must navigate its foreign relations carefully while addressing the rising threats to its national security. The Iraqi government needs to adopt strategies to mitigate these external pressures, ensuring the safety of its citizens and the integrity of its sovereignty as tensions continue to mount in the region.
