The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts for intense rains in Pernambuco, with the most severe warning affecting 84 municipalities.
On Monday, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has recognized a significant weather threat in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco by issuing red, orange, and yellow alerts for intense rainfall. The red alert, indicating a high danger level due to heavy rainfall, specifically targets 84 municipalities located in the Agreste, SertΓ£o, and Zona da Mata Sul regions. This alert remains in effect until 11:59 PM and warns residents of significant potential disruptions due to the projected heavy rainfall.
According to Inmet's assessments, the red alert anticipates rainfall exceeding 60 millimeters per hour or above 100 millimeters in a single day, leading to a high risk of flooding, river overflow, and landslides in vulnerable areas. In addition to this severe warning, a secondary orange alert has been issued for other municipalities in the state, predicting strong rainfall and intense winds, while the entire state remains under a yellow alert indicating a potential risk.
These warnings come in light of the historical context of heavy rains in Pernambuco, which frequently lead to catastrophic events such as flooding and landslides. The alerts serve as crucial notifications for local governments and residents, urging preparedness and caution as the state braces for severe weather conditions that could impact infrastructure and public safety.
