Cuiabá City Hall releases digital IPTU 2026 bill; see how to access it
Cuiabá's City Hall has launched the digital version of the 2026 Urban Property Tax (IPTU) bills, which must be accessed online as physical copies will not be issued.
Cuiabá's City Hall has introduced the digital bill for the Urban Property Tax (IPTU) for the year 2026, available from March 2. The city administration emphasizes that all property owners will need to access their tax bills through the Taxpayer Portal, as physical copies will not be sent out. Payments in full made before the deadline on March 25 will receive a 10% discount, while those choosing to pay in installments can divide the total into up to nine payments.
Furthermore, the city has decided to exempt approximately 19,000 properties that lack pavement in front of them from the IPTU for the current year. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to update the property tax base by including new properties and refining existing records. The new regulations signal an effort to promote fairness in tax collection and to address issues faced by property owners in underserved areas.
The proposed changes to IPTU law in Cuiabá highlight the city's administrative shifts towards a more digital and efficient tax collection system. As residents adjust to this transition, it raises questions about accessibility and the effectiveness of online systems in serving all community members, especially those in less connected or lower-income neighborhoods.
