Gironde: up to 400,000 euros in fines required against three companies accused of waste trafficking

Three companies from Gironde have been accused of illegally transporting and burying over 6,000 tons of waste in Spain to avoid taxes and treatment obligations in France.

In Gironde, the Bordeaux prosecutor's office has requested fines amounting to up to 400,000 euros against three local companies accused of illegally transferring and burying over 6,000 tons of waste in Spain between 2020 and 2022. The companies allegedly conducted this operation to evade taxes and avoid adhering to French waste management regulations. This case has drawn significant attention due to the scale of the environmental violations and the attempts to bypass legal accountability.

As part of the legal proceedings, six company executives are also facing charges, having appeared in court before the Bordeaux criminal court. The prosecution's proposed penalties include substantial financial sanctions for each of these leaders, with the highest fine of 100,000 euros suggested for the head of GreenRécup'33, whom the prosecutor's representative described as playing a 'central role' in the scheme. This situation underlines ongoing concerns about waste management and corporate accountability in the region.

The court's decision on this matter is pending and is expected to be announced on June 1st. The outcome could have repercussions not only for the involved companies and their management but also for wider regulatory practices governing waste disposal and environmental protection in France, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement against environmental crimes.
