Germany will not participate in US and Israel strikes in Iran

Germany has declared it will not take part in military strikes by the US and Israel against Iran amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Germany's Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, stated on Monday that Germany will not participate in the military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran as military conflict continues to expand in the Middle East. This announcement comes just two days after the US and Israel launched a significant offensive against Iran, indicating a clear divergence from the UK's position, which has allowed the US to utilize its bases in the region to target Iranian missile sites. Wadephul emphasized that Germany does not possess similar military bases in the area, nor does it have the necessary military resources to support such actions.

Despite Germany's decision not to engage in offensive military action, Wadephul noted that German soldiers deployed in Jordan and Iraq would defend themselves if attacked. This statement underscores Germany's cautious approach amidst increasing military tensions in the region. He also asserted that from Germany's perspective, no further military initiatives will be undertaken, indicating a preference for a more restrained role in the ongoing conflict.

Wadephul's remarks raise meaningful questions about the legality of the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, as he expressed clear doubts regarding their conformity with international law. This stance reflects Germany's broader commitment to adhering to international legal standards while navigating complex geopolitical dilemmas in the Middle East, positioning itself as a country prioritizing diplomatic engagement over military intervention.
