Niklas Ekström from Finland claimed a bronze medal in the ski orienteering sprint competition held in Rusutsu, Japan, on Monday. He finished the race with a time of 16.38 seconds, trailing the gold medalist, Norway's Jorgen Baklid, by 20 seconds. The silver medal was captured by Norway's Stryk Kamsvaag, who was just two seconds ahead of Ekström, showcasing a competitive race among the top participants.

The 24-year-old from Turku expressed his satisfaction with his performance under challenging conditions, emphasizing that the environment in Japan was significantly different from what athletes typically experience in Finland. He noted the difficult snow conditions, stating, "The conditions in the race were very different from what we are used to in Finland. There was practically crusted snow everywhere, and the environment here in Japan is just so different." Before the race, he felt considerable pressure and excitement, recalling how his skis trembled in anticipation during the warm-up.

In the women's competition, the best Finnish performer was Amanda Yli-Futka, who secured seventh place, while the gold medal also went to Norway, awarded to Anna Ulvensoen. This event highlights the strong competition in ski orienteering, particularly from Norwegian athletes, who dominated the medal podium across both the men's and women's events, indicating their continued prowess in this sport at an international level.
