No longer 140/90 mm Hg. Blood pressure standards have been tightened

New blood pressure standards have been established, highlighting the importance of monitoring and managing hypertension to prevent serious health complications.

Recent updates to blood pressure standards now redefine normal levels for adults, underscoring the significance of proper measurement and awareness of hypertension's risks. Healthy blood pressure is a critical indicator of cardiovascular health, with values that exceed the new norms significantly increasing the risk of severe diseases such as stroke, heart attack, and atherosclerosis. Furthermore, hypertension adversely affects eyesight and kidney function, marking it as a serious public health issue.

According to data from the National Health Fund, around 11 million people in Poland are affected by hypertension, placing the country among the highest rates in Europe. Over a third of adults are estimated to be affected, with the prevalence rising markedly with age. This alarming statistic emphasizes the urgent need for public health initiatives aimed at hypertension awareness and prevention.

In addition to individual health implications, the government is reportedly working on changes to the e-health system intended to unlock over 3 billion PLN from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). These changes may enhance the management of health services and patient care related to hypertension and other chronic conditions, signaling a critical step toward addressing this public health concern effectively.
