Young man running away with girlfriend caught by villagers, beaten up severely
In Vaishali district of Bihar, a young man attempting to elope with his girlfriend was caught and brutally beaten by locals.
On Monday, chaos erupted in Goroul, Vaishali district, Bihar, when a local youth attempting to elope with his girlfriend was intercepted by villagers. The couple was riding a motorcycle when the girl's family discovered their whereabouts and gave chase, ultimately cornering them near the Goroul Chowk overbridge. As tensions escalated, the situation intensified with increasing numbers of villagers gathering, leading to an altercation where the young man was physically assaulted.
Eyewitnesses reported that the initially peaceful pursuit turned chaotic as bystanders became involved, prompting a vicious beating of the young man, identified as Amit Kumar. The presence of an angry mob quickly transformed the situation, highlighting social attitudes towards young couples seeking to break traditional norms, such as eloping. The rising crowd created an unsafe environment, necessitating police intervention to restore order and ensure the safety of those involved.
In response to the escalating violence, local police were alerted, and Sub-Inspector Rahul Kumar arrived at the scene with a police contingent. They successfully extricated Amit Kumar and his friend, who had accompanied him, from the mob and brought them to the nearby Goroul police station for protection. The incident, which reflects ongoing challenges regarding societal norms and romantic relationships in rural India, underscores the risks faced by young couples against community backlash in matters of love and choice.
