Education Program in Benediktbeuern: A Monastery for Youth

The Benediktbeuern Monastery has transformed into a vibrant hub for youth education through a new joint program initiated by the Don Bosco Salesians and the Center for Environment and Culture.

The Benediktbeuern Monastery, often perceived as a secluded place of prayer, is, in fact, a lively institution brimming with activity and purpose. According to Franz Wasensteiner, the director of the monastery, the presence of the Catholic University of Applied Sciences and the active engagement of the Salesians of Don Bosco in youth work contribute significantly to this vitality. The recent fusion of the two educational institutions has birthed a new collaborative educational program named 'Don Bosco Kloster Benediktbeuern,' which is set to offer a diverse range of 118 events throughout the year.

With over 150 dedicated staff members working on-site, the monastery is aimed at making education accessible to young people. Benedikt Hartmann, the director of the Center for Environment and Culture, emphasized that approximately 40,000 youths visit the monastery grounds each year, which highlights its role as a significant educational venue. This influx not only shows the attractive educational offerings but also reinforces the monastery's commitment to serving and empowering the youth through various programs.

The 79-page program booklet delineates a multitude of activities ranging from environmental education to cultural engagement, showcasing a well-rounded approach to youth development. This initiative represents not only an expansion of educational opportunities but also signifies a movement towards community engagement, social responsibility, and the fostering of a holistic learning environment for young individuals in the region.
