The ski marathon held in Anykščiai featured notable participants, including the Lithuanian Olympian Vytautas Strolia, who competed alongside his daughter. Despite recent thawing weather conditions, organizers set out 1 km and 7.3 km loops for the event. Approximately 260 participants registered for the marathon, which saw the entry of both local athletes and guests from Poland and Latvia.
In this year's event, 90 participants opted for the longest distance of nearly 37 km. Aliaksei Ivanou emerged as the men's champion, completing the course in 1 hour, 52 minutes, and 55 seconds. Following close behind was Vytautas Strolia, an Olympian biathlete, who finished second with a time of 1 hour and 56 minutes. Notably, Strolia approached the competition with a training regimen in mind, as he prepares for the upcoming Biathlon World Cup next weekend in Kontiolahti, Finland.
Strolia's participation was marked by light interaction with spectators as he skied alongside the leaders, even crossing the finish line with his youngest child in his arms. The event was a significant gathering for winter sports enthusiasts in the region, reinforcing community participation and promoting the sport despite the challenges posed by environmental conditions.
