The IDF prepares for the possibility of action in Lebanon to create a defensive line for settlements near the border fence
The IDF is preparing for potential military action on the Lebanese side of the border to establish a defensive line against Hezbollah for Israeli settlements.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are currently strategizing military options in response to heightened tensions along the Lebanese border, particularly with the Iranian influence on Hezbollah's actions. Their goal is to create a robust defense line that would protect Israeli settlements from potential aggressions. Following the last war, the IDF has maintained five forward positions in southern Lebanon to enhance operational control and reduce immediate threats to nearby Israeli communities.
In light of Hezbollah's involvement in Iranian-led offensives, the IDF has implemented measures to limit anti-tank fire attempts from Lebanon and prevent infiltration by militia units into Israeli territory. This strategy includes the mobilization of around 100,000 reservists to bolster defense in the northern front and the West Bank. Furthermore, the security establishment has developed several operational plans focused on renewing and expanding military engagements in Lebanon, offering various alternatives to the political leadership, ranging from limited operations in southern Lebanon to broader campaigns aimed at decisively countering Hezbollah.
However, security sources have cautioned that a large-scale military operation against Hezbollah, while concurrently addressing threats from Iran, could have significant implications for operational attention, affect the deployment of air defense systems in the home front, and impact resource allocation within intelligence and communications sectors. The IDF is thus preparing for the possibility of an extensive series of airstrikes against targets in Lebanon, in conjunction with establishing a strong line of defense for Israeli settlements in the region.
