ROKO will take the field again, schedule released for Afghanistan series

The BCCI has announced the schedule for Afghanistan's tour of India, featuring one Test and three ODI matches in June 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the details of Afghanistan’s tour of India on March 2, 2024, which will include one Test match and three One Day Internationals (ODIs). The solitary Test is set to commence on June 6 in New Chandigarh (Mullanpur), followed by the ODIs on June 14, 17, and 20, taking place in Dharamshala, Lucknow, and Chennai, respectively. Notably, the series will not include any T20 International matches, likely to allow the teams to prepare for upcoming events including the World Cup.

The series is seen as an opportunity for the Indian cricket team to experiment and establish balance as they gear up for the ODI World Cup in 2027. The management intends to finalize various aspects of the team, such as the batting order, all-around options, and bowling combinations. Experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are expected to participate in the series, aiming to retain their form and fitness ahead of the looming World Cup.

Given the strategic significance of these matches, this series not only provides a platform for younger players but also serves as a crucial preparation phase for India's potential squad for the World Cup. The choice to exclude T20 matches emphasizes India's focus on longer formats and consistency as they approach significant contests in international cricket.
