FGR obtains evidence for the bodyguards of 'Mencho' to remain in prison

The Mexican Attorney General's Office has secured the detention of two alleged bodyguards of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho', who are linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The General Prosecutor's Office (FGR) in Mexico has succeeded in securing a connection to the legal process for two alleged bodyguards of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, colloquially known as 'El Mencho', who is the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). These individuals, identified as Andrés 'N' and Gerardo 'N', were arrested during an operation aimed at capturing El Mencho, who was eliminated on February 22 in Tapalpa, Jalisco. Following their arrest, they have been placed in the high-security Altiplano prison.

The FGR issued a statement on March 1, 2026, indicating that it presented the necessary evidentiary data to a federal judge to process the alleged gunmen, who are believed to be part of El Mencho's security entourage. The federal judge has mandated preventive prison measures, leading to a timeline established for the completion of the complementary investigation, reflecting the seriousness with which the judiciary addresses cartel-related violence in Mexico.

The charges against the bodyguards include allegations of illegal possession of firearms exclusive to the military, with Andrés 'N' specifically cited as facing charges due to his suspected involvement in these offenses. The ongoing investigations highlight the continued efforts by Mexican authorities to dismantle the powerful CJNG and take action against its key operatives, which in turn could have significant implications for cartel dynamics and law enforcement strategies in the region.
