Tsahkna: There is currently no sign of opening airspace in the Middle East

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that the situation in the Middle East is escalating, and there are no indications of airspace opening to allow Estonians to leave the region.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna addressed the current tense situation in the Middle East during an interview on 'Terevisioon' on Monday morning. He emphasized that there are no prospects for the opening of airspace in the region, which would enable people to evacuate safely. According to Tsahkna, information has been disseminated to citizens warning them that the region is dangerous, although travel bans cannot be imposed at the moment. He underlined that air traffic remains closed, leaving many uncertain about when it might resume.

Tsahkna's comments reflect a growing concern about the escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly with Iran's unpredictable actions in the region. He noted that the recent night demonstrated a lack of calm, and the Iranian government appears to be executing retaliatory actions that could destabilize the situation further. Tsahkna described this period as historical, where Iran is actively engaging with its regional allies, leading to increasing conflict rather than resolution.

The minister warned that rather than seeing a calming of the situation in the coming days, it is more likely that matters will worsen as Iran acts aggressively. He likened the Iranian regime to a wounded predator, suggesting that it is willing to risk everything in its confrontations regardless of the friendship or alliances it may have. This assessment raises alarms for those with interests in the Middle East, particularly for citizens of Estonia and other countries contemplating travel to the area.
