Ex-teacher tells of 'deep pain' after alleged abuse of former student

Former teacher Stephen Fane Noga denies allegations of sexual abuse against a former student during the 1980s, claiming he did not view their relationship as inappropriate at the time.

Stephen Fane Noga, a 76-year-old former teacher, is facing allegations of sexual abuse stemming from events in the 1980s when he was a teacher at Hobart Matriculation College. A former student, now in her 60s, has brought a lawsuit against him, claiming that he repeatedly abused her when she was just 16 years old. Mr. Noga has consistently denied these claims, asserting that he did not perceive his actions as inappropriate during that period, which he attributes to being 'temporarily blinded' by his feelings at the time. In addition to suing Noga, the plaintiff is also holding the State of Tasmania accountable, alleging it failed in its duty of care.
