Mercedes Left Alone in Parking for Less Than 30 Seconds โ During That Time, ParkkiPate Struck
A woman received a parking fine when her friend briefly left the car to retrieve a parking disc, even though she had just purchased it.
A woman parked her Mercedes on a parking lot in Vantaa, Finland, where parking was allowed for two hours with a disc. She did not possess a parking disc at the time, so she asked her friend to take care of a work call while she went to obtain one. Unfortunately, her friend briefly left the vehicle for less than 30 seconds to retrieve the parking disc from another friend, during which time a parking warden from ParkkiPate issued a fine for the lack of a parking disc.
Upon returning to the car, the woman attempted to contest the fine of 60 euros on the spot, claiming that her friend was away for less than half a minute to collect a disc. However, the parking warden did not waive the ticket despite her showing the newly acquired parking disc. In her subsequent complaint to ParkkiPate, the company reaffirmed that the vehicle was parked incorrectly and cited the regulations on displaying parking discs clearly and in a readable manner from the exterior.
The parking enforcement emphasized the importance of adherence to rules regarding the placement of parking discs, as this is critical for proper monitoring and compliance. The incident illustrates the often strict enforcement policies that parking authorities follow and serves as a reminder for drivers to ensure compliance before leaving their vehicles, even for short periods.
