Timely assistance for families with preschool-aged children will be introduced in Liepāja and South Kurzeme
A new service aimed at providing timely support to families with preschool-aged children is set to be introduced in Liepāja and South Kurzeme, emphasizing early intervention before problems escalate.
The family support center in Kurzeme, located in Liepāja, is launching a new initiative to provide timely assistance to families with preschool-aged children. Led by Guna Krēgere-Medne, professionals in the field of social services gathered to discuss the implementation of this new service. Krēgere-Medne pointed out that in Latvia, more focus is needed to help families before they encounter severe issues that require intervention from child protection agencies or other institutions.
The concept of early intervention is emphasized, which aims to support children proactively rather than waiting until they require care outside their family. While assistance for children in out-of-home care is indeed necessary, Krēgere-Medne stresses the importance of taking preventive measures to prevent situations from deteriorating to such an extent. The family support center has already been providing related services and has gained valuable experience and insights into family needs through its ongoing efforts.
Evita Vanaga, who has led early intervention sessions for eight years at the center, underscores the importance of understanding and addressing the needs of families before problems escalate. This proactive approach is intended to enhance the overall well-being of children and strengthen family units in the community, which can significantly impact social stability and family dynamics in the region.
