Singapore's 'Lee Jae-myung and Kim Hye-kyung Orchid' welcomed... President Yoon 'it is truly an honor'
During his state visit to Singapore, President Lee Jae-myung attended an orchid naming ceremony where a new hybrid was named in honor of him and his wife, Kim Hye-kyung.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is currently on a state visit to Singapore, which includes attending a special orchid naming ceremony held on the 2nd of the month. This ceremonial tradition in Singapore involves naming a new variety of orchid after dignitaries to honor them, specifically intending to recognize foreign heads of state and important guests. During the event, which took place at the Singapore government complex, President Lee was honored with an orchid named 'Vanda Lee Jae Myung Kim Hea Kyung,' a hybrid of the native tropical orchid known as Vanda, symbolizing the strong diplomatic ties between South Korea and Singapore.
The orchid chosen for this event was specially bred to capture characteristics reminiscent of the 'Geon-gon' or duality represented in the South Korean flag, suggesting a deeper symbolic connection between the two nations. Not only does the orchid represent a blossoming friendship between South Korea and Singapore, but it also emphasizes the potential for further collaboration and growth in their bilateral relations. The naming of the orchid is a gesture rich in cultural significance, reflecting both nations' commitment to strengthening their partnership through symbolic acts.
President Lee expressed his gratitude, stating, "It is truly an honor to have such a beautiful and fragrant orchid named after me." His visit also included a formal welcome ceremony and meetings with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, marking a diplomatic visit that seeks to enhance cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries. These discussions, followed by joint announcements, aim to lay a foundation for future engagements, showcasing how cultural exchanges and formal diplomacy can intertwine in international relations.
