Transporters of Carchi will hold a motorized march on March 2

Transporters in Carchi, Ecuador, will conduct a motorized march instead of a strike on March 2, beginning in Bolívar and ending at the Carchi Government headquarters.

The leaders of the Heavy Transport Association of Carchi have announced that instead of going on a strike on March 2, they will hold a motorized march starting from the Bolívar cantón and concluding at the Carchi Government building in Tulcán. Carlos Bastidas, president of the association, clarified that the march is set to begin at 08:00. Initially, they had planned to park heavy vehicles along the E-35 highway in various locations but opted for a march following recent developments.

The decision to change from a strike to a motorized march comes after the leadership of the transport sector did not attend a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Government, Cristhian Mora, on February 27. This meeting aimed to address their previous plans announced on February 26, which included the strike action. Bastidas indicated that previous discussions had not yielded any satisfactory responses from the government, prompting the transport leaders to express their frustrations through this demonstration instead.

This mobilization highlights ongoing tensions between transporters and government officials in Ecuador, particularly regarding their demands and the lack of engagement from the authorities in addressing their concerns. The situation reflects broader challenges within the transportation sector and the need for dialogue to resolve outstanding issues effectively.
