Muesli sold in UK supermarkets 'may be NO healthier than chocolate cereal'

A new investigation reveals that some muesli sold in UK supermarkets may be as unhealthy as chocolate cereals due to high sugar content.

A recent investigation by Which?, a consumer advocacy organization in the UK, found that muesli marketed as a healthy breakfast option can sometimes be just as sugary as chocolate cereals. The analysis covered 86 muesli products, revealing that some varieties contain alarmingly high sugar levels, with certain samples containing up to 20 grams of sugar per 100 grams.

Which? assessed these products by scoring them out of 100 based on a variety of nutritional factors, including positive elements like fiber and protein as well as negative components such as sugar, saturated fats, and total calorie content. The findings indicate that despite the perception of muesli as a healthier choice, many products do not live up to their marketing claims, raising concerns for consumers looking for nutritious breakfast options.

The study identified Raw Gorilla Keto Mighty Muesli as the least healthy option, scoring a mere 46. Although this particular product is low in sugar, at just 1.5 grams per 100 grams, it compensates for this by being higher in calories than typical muesli. Such results highlight the importance of scrutinizing food labels, as consumers may be misled by health claims associated with muesli that do not reflect the actual nutritional content.
