The court questioning of Seiji Katsurada, the president of the Shiretoko Cruise Company, is taking place today in Kushiro District Court. He faces charges of negligent homicide regarding the sinking of the 'KAZU I' cruise ship that occurred on April 23, 2022, which resulted in the deaths or disappearances of 26 people. Katsurada apologized shortly after the incident but has remained silent since then, while the families of the victims have called for the truth to be revealed as the only way to show sincerity. At the initial hearing on November 12, 2025, he stated, "What I can do is to explain sincerely." This questioning is expected to last for three days, with various parties, including the defense, prosecution, and victim's families, scheduled to ask questions.
