Search for integrated high school with technical education grows by more than 30% in the Sorocaba region

The demand for integrated high school and technical education has surged significantly in the Sorocaba region of Brazil, with a notable increase in candidates for the state technical schools.

The interest in integrated technical high school education has seen a remarkable increase in the Sorocaba region of Brazil, as evidenced by a 30% rise in candidates applying for the vestibulinho exam for the state technical schools (Etecs). According to the Centro Paula Souza, the number of applicants has risen from 14,134 in 2021 to 19,038 in 2026, marking a significant shift in educational preferences toward combined academic and vocational training. This trend is reflective of a broader movement within São Paulo state, which has experienced a staggering 78% increase in students opting for integrated programs since 2021.

At the Etec Fernando Prestes in Sorocaba, the rise in applications has prompted an expansion in course offerings, increasing from eight to twelve programs. Students are now choosing to combine their high school education with vocational courses such as business administration and systems development, indicating a shift towards practical skills development and career preparedness. The integration of hands-on activities and projects during high school is aimed at enhancing student engagement and ensuring they acquire relevant competencies for the job market.

Furthermore, the positive outcomes of this integrated approach are highlighted by the fact that last year, 107 students from the Etec secured internships, underscoring the value of technical training in improving employment prospects. Katiana Garcia Ornelas, the educational coordinator at Etec, emphasizes that this dual educational pathway provides students with broader opportunities, effectively bridging the gap between education and workforce demands in a rapidly evolving economy.
