Operation Tamoiotatá imposes R$ 1.7 million in fines for illegal deforestation on BR-230 in Amazonas

The Tamoiotatá operation in Humaitá, Amazonas resulted in R$ 1.7 million in fines for three individuals involved in illegal deforestation.

The first phase of Operation Tamoiotatá 6, carried out by the Instituto de Proteção Ambiental do Amazonas (Ipaam), resulted in R$ 1.7 million in fines for three individuals on Friday, September 27, along BR-230 in Humaitá, Amazonas. The operation is part of a larger task force aimed at combating illegal deforestation and environmental crimes. The results of the operation were disclosed on Sunday, October 1.

During the operation, environmental inspection teams traveled 160 kilometers along the BR-230, inspecting rural properties along the highway for compliance with environmental regulations. They issued nine notices of infraction and imposed three embargoes due to violations such as failure to comply with previous orders, unauthorized livestock farming, and hindering the regeneration of native vegetation. In total, the areas affected by the embargoes cover 220 hectares, equivalent to approximately 220 football fields.

According to Gustavo Picanço, the director-president of Ipaam, the operation is strategically planned based on prior assessments and aims to increase enforcement against environmental violations. This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to protect the Amazon rainforest and addresses the critical need to regulate land use in a region that has been heavily impacted by illegal deforestation activities.
