High alert in UP after Khamenei's death, monitoring crowd with drone cameras

Following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Uttar Pradesh has heightened its security measures, particularly in response to protests across several cities.

In the wake of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Uttar Pradesh has implemented strict security measures, particularly in cities like Lucknow where protests have been reported. The state's Director General of Police, Rajiv Krishna, has ordered all district Superintendents of Police (SPs), Inspector Generals of ranges, and Additional Directors General of zones to enhance patrolling in light of increased sensitivity due to the proximity of the Holi festival and Ramadan. Given the potential for communal tensions, all districts are currently on high alert, and special precautions are now a priority.

Police forces have been instructed to monitor social media closely for any incitement of violence and are to increase patrols in areas with mixed populations. Drones are being deployed to keep an eye on crowds, and authorities have firmly stated that no violent protests will be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against those spreading rumors, and misinformation circulating on social media is to be promptly countered. Additionally, plainclothes officers from various police levels are being activated in collaboration with intelligence agencies to ensure swift responses to potential unrest.

District police officials have also been directed to review riot control equipment and ensure that the emergency response services, such as the 112 helpline, maintain a high alert status. The administration has made it clear that with the ongoing sensitive period surrounding Holi and Ramadan, all necessary measures are being taken to maintain peace and order.
