Carnival parades in Porto Alegre attract an audience of 50,000 people

The Porto Alegre carnival parades concluded with approximately 50,000 attendees over the weekend.

The carnival parades in Porto Alegre concluded early on Sunday, February 1st, with an impressive turnout of around 50,000 spectators at the Cultural Complex of Porto Seco in North Zone. The event showcased a vibrant display of local talent as schools of samba performed their intricate and colorful routines. The results will be announced on Monday, February 2nd, at 1:30 PM. This year's event successfully highlighted the rich cultural heritage of samba in Porto Alegre, an important part of Brazil's carnival tradition.

The first group to perform was the Tribo Os Comanches, followed by several schools from the Silver Group, including Cohab Santa Rita, Copacabana, Realeza, and Vila Mapa. The Gold Group's performance began shortly after midnight with União da Tinga, which was succeeded by Acadêmicos de Gravataí, Imperadores do Samba, and Estado Maior da Restinga. A total of 17 samba schools participated, with eight from the Silver Group and nine from the Gold Group, making it a competitive and thrilling atmosphere for the attendees, a hallmark of Porto Alegre's carnival festivities.

This year's carnival saw an expanded structure that accommodated 8,400 free seats each night in the stands, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. This improvement reflects a 20% increase in capacity compared to previous years, allowing more carnival enthusiasts to gather and enjoy the performances, fostering a sense of community and support for local samba schools. The celebration not only entertains but also reinforces cultural ties and promotes local pride in Porto Alegre's artistic achievements.
