The Lithuanian 3x3 basketball team starts training for the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournament, featuring top teams from previous championships.

The 3x3 basketball national team of Lithuania is preparing for its first tournament of the season, which will focus on Olympic qualification. This tournament, held for just the second time in history, will see teams that were champions in continental championships and world competitions last year, as well as previous Champions Cup winners, competing against each other. The event is particularly significant as it presents a platform for showcasing the best talents in the sport.

Among those preparing for this challenge are Lithuania’s European champions, who are led by coach Dainius Novickas. The preparation camp will take place at the President Valdas Adamkus Sports Center at VDU, where eight candidates will vie for a spot in the competitive squad. These candidates include players from various clubs, indicating a collaborative spirit among the local basketball teams in support of the national effort. The participants are all aiming to prove themselves worthy of representing Lithuania on the international stage.

Additionally, it’s noteworthy that key players from local clubs in Marijampolė, Šakiai, and Kėdainiai have agreed to release their athletes for national duty. Ignas Vaitkus, who played a pivotal role in securing the European Championship title last year and was named MVP, expressed gratitude towards these clubs for their willingness to support the national team in its quest for Olympic qualification. This reflects the strong connection and mutual respect within Lithuania’s basketball community.
