Firefighters in Quito rescue four people who could not descend from Rucu Pichincha

Emergency services in Quito rescued four individuals, including three young men and one woman, who were stranded after climbing Rucu Pichincha and were unable to descend.

On the evening of February 28, the Quito Fire Department (Cuerpo de Bomberos de Quito - CBQ) successfully rescued four individuals who were unable to descend from the summit of Rucu Pichincha, a popular mountain climb. The group consisted of three young men aged 20 and one woman aged 18, one of whom suffered a muscle injury during their climb. The specialized high-altitude rescue team was dispatched immediately to the scene to assist these individuals.

Upon arrival, the rescue team found the four climbers in need of assistance, but they were medically evaluated and determined to be stable overall. The firefighters applied techniques to secure the injured individual and ensure that he could safely descend without further injury. This careful approach demonstrates the professionalism and training of the rescue team, illustrating the potential dangers of high-altitude climbing and the importance of being prepared.

After reaching a safe location, the climbers were offered pre-hospital care by the fire department paramedics, before being transported back to their homes. This incident highlights the vital role that local emergency services play in providing safety and support for adventurers in the outdoors, especially in challenging environments like Rucu Pichincha.
