Kerr regrets publicly speaking about Porziņģis' diagnosis
Steve Kerr expressed regret over publicly discussing Kristaps Porziņģis' health issues, specifically regarding his diagnosis of POTS.
Steve Kerr, the head coach of the NBA team, recently publicly expressed his regret for discussing the medical condition of Latvian basketball player Kristaps Porziņģis. In the previous season while playing for the Boston Celtics, Porziņģis was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a condition that can lead to severe fatigue and dizziness if left untreated. He missed several games in the latter part of the season due to this undisclosed illness.
This season, while with the Atlanta Hawks, Porziņģis continued to face health challenges and missed more games, although he denied that these issues were related to his previous diagnosis of POTS. During an interview with the radio station 95.7 The Game, Kerr revealed that he had talked with Hawks general manager Landry Fields, who denied that Porziņģis had been diagnosed with POTS, adding to the confusion surrounding the player's health.
Kerr acknowledged it was a mistake to speak on a matter that was beyond his expertise, asserting that he regretted attempting to discuss Porziņģis' medical diagnosis publicly. His comments highlight the sensitivity surrounding athletes' health and the importance of privacy in discussions about their medical conditions, especially when the implications of public statements can affect the players' image and their personal lives.
