This year's event marks the fifth consecutive year that Pride Week is being held in Árborg. The week will be officially inaugurated by the mayor of Árborg at a ceremony in the auditorium of Fjölbrautaskólinn Suðurlands in Selfoss on the evening of March 1, followed by a week-long program filled with various activities.
Ellý Tómasdóttir, the project manager for leisure services in Árborg and the municipality's prevention representative, highlighted that this week is not only a celebration of diversity but also an educational opportunity to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues, visibility, and the significance of acceptance. The event encourages community involvement and aims to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. With educational programs and outreach throughout the week, Pride Week seeks to create meaningful dialogues and empower individuals within the LGBTQ+ community in Árborg. The initiative reflects the broader movement for LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance in Iceland and aims to influence positive changes within the local community.
