The Yawa workshop has been established to empower Yawanawá women, allowing them to express and share their cultural heritage without the necessity of leaving their land for economic opportunities. Located in Aldeia Nova Esperança, Tarauacá municipality, the workshop, which began in January 2022, focuses on the dual goals of preserving indigenous culture while simultaneously fostering socioeconomic development within the community.

Raquel Nawashahu, the workshop's coordinator and the chief (cacica) of Aldeia Nova Esperança, shared that the initiative arose from discussions among the women about their desires to create their clothing and express their identity. This endeavor underscores a broader movement within indigenous communities to reclaim agency over their cultural expressions and economic futures.

The establishment of the workshop serves not only as a creative outlet but also as a platform for social and economic empowerment, enabling the Yawanawá women to thrive within their own territories. It highlights the significance of local initiatives in fostering self-determination among indigenous populations and preserving cultural identity in the face of globalization and external pressures.
