Hezbollah threatens against US and Israel's aggression towards Iran
Hezbollah has announced its intention to confront the US and Israel in response to their attacks on Iran.
Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite militant group, declared on Sunday its intention to retaliate against the United States and Israel in response to their recent military strikes on Iran. The group's leader, Nayem Qasem, emphasized the organization's commitment to standing against what they term 'aggression', making it clear that they have no plans to abandon their position of resistance and honor. Despite their firm stance, Hezbollah has not yet taken any concrete actions following the US and Israeli bombardments that commenced on Saturday.
On the same day as the announcement, demonstrations supporting Iran were planned in the southern suburbs of Beirut, areas known for their strong Hezbollah presence. The group urged mosques to organize memorial ceremonies and Quran readings to honor the senior leader of Iran’s theocratic regime, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in the attacks by Israel and the US. This mobilization reflects Hezbollah's strategy of rallying support among its base and maintaining its relevance in the regional power dynamics amidst rising tensions in the Middle East.
Historically, Hezbollah has been significantly weakened in its capabilities, and notably, the group did not engage in last year's 12-day conflict involving Israel and Iran. As tensions rise again, the effectiveness of Hezbollah’s rhetoric and potential actions will be closely observed by both regional actors and global players alike, especially in light of their past confrontations with Israel and their strategic alliances in Iran.
