Large rockslide on E134 in Etne: - Massive boulders

A significant rockslide on E134 in Etne, Norway has blocked the road, with nearby buildings affected but no reported injuries.

In Etne municipality, Vestland county, a major rockslide occurred on the E134 Haukelivegen around 10:44 AM, blocking the road. Although buildings in the vicinity have sustained damage, authorities have confirmed that no individuals have been caught in the slide. Local police reported that nearby residents sought refuge in a nearby tunnel, ensuring their safety during the incident.

Responding to the rockslide, which involved significant boulders, police operative Dag Steinkopf noted that the situation was evolving, with more rocks continuing to fall even after initial reports. Traffic was heavily impacted, and the authorities announced a long-term closure of the road while diversions via RV13 were set in place to manage the flow of vehicles. Reports indicated that the sheer size of the boulders that had fallen completely covered the roadway, complicating the response efforts further.

As work began to clear the debris, the Vegtrafikksentralen (Road Traffic Central) advised that the road will remain closed for an extended period. The situation highlights the ongoing geological risks in the region and the need for effective emergency management strategies to protect both infrastructure and local residents in such vulnerable areas.
