A95 near Penzberg: Car catches fire while driving

A car completely burned out on the A95 near Penzberg after catching fire during travel, causing traffic disruptions.

On Saturday, a passenger car completely burned out while traveling on the A95 near Penzberg. The fire broke out around 14:10, about two kilometers before the Penzberg-Iffeldorf exit, while the vehicle was heading south, as reported by the Weilheim traffic police inspection. Fortunately, the 56-year-old driver from Leipzig managed to pull over onto the emergency lane just in time, and both he and his 59-year-old wife were able to escape the burning vehicle unharmed.

The Beuerberg fire department responded with 18 personnel to manage the fire. The A95 highway towards Garmisch was completely closed for about 45 minutes until the car was entirely extinguished, leading to significant traffic congestion. The police estimated the damage to the completely destroyed vehicle at approximately 35,000 euros, and a mechanical failure is suspected to be the cause of the blaze.

This incident highlights the potential dangers of vehicle fires during travel and the importance of quick reactions from drivers to ensure safety. The timely response from emergency services also underscores the need for preparedness in preventing traffic-related incidents and minimizing disruptions for other road users.
